[The Children of Willesden Lane: A Memoir of Music, Love and Survival] (By: Mona Golabek) [published: March, 2004]  Subtitled Beyond the Kindertransport: A memoir of Music, Love and Survival, The Children of Willesden Lane is “A tale of one young woman’s courage…hopeful, personal, and true.” -Los Angeles Times.  Fourteen-year-old Lisa Jura was a musical prodigy who hoped to become a concert pianist.  But when Hitler’s armies advanced on pre-war Vienna, Lisa’s parents were forced to make a difficult decision.  Able to secure passage for only on of their three daughters aboard the Kindertransport, they chose to send gifted Lisa to London and safety.  Based on the true story of her mother, the author describes the inspirational story of  Lisa Jura’s escape from Nazi-controlled Austria.  Please join us on Tuesday, August 9th at 7 pm  when Linda Hastings facilitates this heartfelt tale.  Copies of the book are available in the library.
