Digging Into Native History in New Hampshire

Please join us for this special program from New Hampshire Humanities sponsored by the Friends of the library.  “Abenaki history has been reduced to near-invisibility as a result of a conquering culture that placed little value on the Indian experience, and a strategy of self-preservation that required many Abenaki to go “underground”, concealing their true identities for generations to avoid discrimination and persecution.  Robert Goodby reveals archaeological evidence that shows their deep presence here, inches below the earth’s surface.  This educational program will heighten awareness of the Native condition in advance of the One Book One Valley Read, Night of the Living Rez by Morgan Talty.

LOCKED DOORS

We continue to work with JBES on ways to keep the students and faculty of the school and our patrons safe.  When the students return to school Thursday, September 1st the front door of the Library/School will be locked until the students have left the building at approximately 3:30.  We do have a doorbell at the front door and will respond as quickly as possible to get patrons into the library.  Thank you for your understanding.

Magazines!

Did you now the library has a number of magazine subscriptions?  Patrons can browse thru the collection or borrow them to take home and read at a more leisurely pace.  Have a look at New Hampshire magazine or Yankee to get some “local” info, keep up on current events with Newsweek, Time, or Consumer Reports, grab Outside or Mother Earth News for some interesting and educational reading or hunker down this fall with some new recipes from Food and Wine, home ideas from Martha Stewart Living or Country Living!
